Abstract

Purpose : The literature about the effects of pregnancy on corneal thickness was selected, and through meta-analysis, the characteristics of the study and the effect size were identified and determined.
Methods : The search date ranged from January 2001 to December 2017, and search terms were ¡®Pregnancy¡¯, ¡®Pregnant women¡¯ and ¡®Pachymetry¡¯, ¡®Corneal thickness¡¯. The searching is done through the domestic and international database with no restriction for study type and language.
Results : A total of 7 literatures was selected. The difference between corneal thickness pre-pregnancy and during pregnancy had an effect size of 1.013[95% CI: 0.743~1.282], and corneal thickness is shown to increase. The difference between corneal thickness during pregnancy and post-partum had an effect size of -0.539[95% CI: -0.746~-0.332], indicating that corneal thickness is shown to decrease.
Conclusion : Since corneal thickness can be affected significantly before and after the pregnancy, careful attention is a need for fitting the contact lens.
